The Jacksonville Jaguars took on the Colts today at 1 pm in Jacksonville. Game one of the NFL season for both teams. The colts came in as the favorite team to win but as always the Jaguars were up for the upset. This was a game that was hard-fought from the start as newly acquired QB for the Colts, Phillip Rivers played typical Rivers ball. The Jaguars have stated all training camp that they were in it to win it this year. Today they showed it was not just talking.
The game started out for the Colts as they came out throwing all over. I do not think it was a surprise as the Colts went and got Rivers for just that reason. The Jaguars came out a little less hot but the defense was on point so it balanced it out. Minshew looked good and the line gave him a little time. By the end of the first quarter, the Colts led 7-0.
The second quarter saw the Jags offense wake up and Minshew was getting into a grove. Minshew threw a six-yard pass to Chark with 10:42 remaining in the half that he took in for a TD. To set the touchdown was a great interception by the rookie from Florida, Henderson. Something he did often for the Gators, Henderson, and he return it to the 37 to help set up the touchdown.
With 4:45 left in the quarter River once again throws a TD and the Colts take the lead. With about 1:38 left in the half, Minshew went to work. Minshew completed six of six passes for 65 yards on the drive with a TD. The Colts picked up a cheap three and they go to the half Colts up 17-14.
The Third was more of a defensive quarter for both teams as the Jags get three near the end of the quarter and we are tied going into the fourth. The difference was the fourth quarter where the Jags defense came up big and shut the Colts offense down. They held them to zero points. While on the other side Minshew was still completing everything he threw up.
The Jags score ten in the quarter. Minshew finishes with 173 yards and three touchdowns on, and get this, 19 of 20 completions. The best stat from Minshew, zero ints. The accuracy he had and the way he took control of the ball were everything the organization and the fans wanted to see.
The running game was also a shot in the arm as rookie Robinson, who played collegiately at Illinois State and who became the fourth undrafted rookie in NFL history to start Week one, rushed for 62 yards on 16 carries. Many were worried about letting go of Fournette that the running game would suffer, but Robinson looked every bit the part.
Jacksonville Jaguars tanking?
The talk that the Jaguars were trading away their team and tanking was just that, all talk. Those of us who knew the way this team was thinking and the way they were going about their business knew they were not tanking. This is going to be a fun year and I expect more of these type big wins.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will be at The Tennessee Titans next Sunday at 1 PM.
