LeBron and the Lakers stay in Mediocrity, But he gets his Money

The Lakers and LeBron James agreed on a two-year deal with a player option in year two, for 104 million. The deal also comes with a no-trade clause. The deal comes after James chose to opt out of the deal he was in so that the Lakers could use more money to land more talent for another run. The Lakers put their eyes in the Clay Thompson sweepstakes and lost to the Mavericks leaving a hole of big talent to get.

There was speculation that the Lakers could not land a big-time talent this offseason James would take a deal worth what he left on the table and a bit more. What it means is they did not achieve their goal in the offseason and the starting five look simular if not exact to a season ago.

A season ago they had a 47-35 record which was good enough to get them into the play-in round once again. They won and got the defending champion Denver Nuggets for their troubles and their playoff dreams went down the drain. With the improvement of so many in the West this offseason can the Lakers even make to the play-in games this time? Going into his 22 season in the NBA can he be as effective as he has the last 21?  Father time is undefeated and will meet James soon, so is this the way he closes his career? There to help his son move along the legacy, with no more titles?

The answer to these questions only time will tell as they can still make moves with trades etc, but as of now James and the Lakers sit in mediocrity, James got paid, and looks like there is no light shining their way.
