Historic First-Ever College Football Playoff Game At Beaver Stadium

No. 6 Penn State and No. 11 SMU will face each other in the first-ever College Football Playoff game at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions will be making their first appearance since the playoff expanded to twelve teams this season. There have been plenty of regular season games played at historic Beaver Stadium. Now, we will preview this historic game.

No. 11 SMU Mustangs

The Mustangs have caught the eyes of many with their play all season long. SMU runs a interesting offense and they are physical on the defensive side of the ball as well. Likewise, SMU has caught the attention of many fans with their tough play in a few games this season. Earlier this month, Clemson and SMU faced each other for the ACC Championship. The Mustangs defeated the Clemson Tigers 34-31. SMU was down 24-7 at the half. On the other hand, the Mustangs responded with 24 unanswered points in the second half. Quarterback Kevin Jennings was 31/50 for 304 yards and three touchdowns.

Similarly, Jennings also had ten carries 35 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Further, Roderick Daniels Jr lead the receiving corps with eight receptions for 97 yards and one touchdown. Matthew Hibner and Brashard Smith each caught a touchdown.

No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions

The Penn State Nittany Lions found themselves in the Big Ten Championship Game earlier this month against the Oregon Ducks. Penn State fell to Oregon by eight points, 45-37. However, that game demonstrated a lot of the smaller characterstics about this team. The game was relatively close throughout. They trailed Oregon 31-28 at the half. Throughout the game, Penn State demonstrated grit, resilience, and the willingness to fight. The Nittany Lions have demonstrated this season that they can hang with the top teams in the country. Quarterback Drew Allar 20/39 for 226 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Penn State has gone to their dynamic duo of Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen in the backfield. Against Oregon, Allen had 14 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown. Likewise, Singleton had ten carries for 105 yards. Tyler Warren once again showed off his versatility in the Penn State offense. Warren had seven receptions for 84 yards. On the other hand, Harrison Wallace, Nick Singleton, and Omari Evans all caught a touchdown in the game.
