Is Father Time Catching Aaron Rodgers?

Aaron Rodgers return to the NFL after suffering a torn Achilles in last year’s season opener was less than stellar as the New York Jets went down to the San Fran Cisco 49ers 32 to 19 in the opener of the 2024 season. The Jets fans, and let’s face it, all of the NFL fans were waiting to see if 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers could come back from such a devastating injury.

The two-time MVP at one time near the end of last season teased us all by saying he could play then before the season was even over. But of course, he did not but a long offseason of hope for Jets fans ensued as Rodgers showed the form we were all used to. As we all know there is no substitute for real gameplay and since there is no preseason anymore for vets it seems the first real action is game one. We have a Rodgers who looks his age and a Jets team that may be further behind than most believe.

For his part, Rodgers completed 13 of 21 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown, and one interception before leaving in the fourth quarter when the game was a touch out of reach. For a rookie QB, and we saw a few play on Sunday, would love to have had those numbers. For a team with hope and a guy who is a prior MVP, those numbers won’t work. Don’t forget about the eye test. Again if that were a rookie QB then he looked great, but Rodgers looked like a guy running for his life for the most part as the line decided this was the game to practice. His accuracy was slightly off and again with the eyes…he looked old.

I know what you saying right now…It was only game one! I get that but what I have stated stands, The great Aaron Rodgers could have, and has, won with a lot less. I will gladly eat my words if by week eight they are any better than 4-4 and if they are that may well kust prove my point. Good luck Aaron, mayby three days in the dark can help?
