There was a lot of hype when the daft was over as many believed we may have had one of the best QB classes in a long while. Watching Caleb Williams do his magic at USC, not many did not see him coming right in and having a big impact. Some may look at his 1-1 record after two weeks as a sign he is doing just that, after all the Bears were as bad as any team for the past decade.
Jayden Daniels was also highly touted as his magic at LSU gave many the same impressions as Williams, that he could come right in and play. The surprise was Bo Nix, who found himself the starter and captain of the Denver Broncos and after a good preseason had many believing he too could be a big player. But after week two only one seems to pass the eye test right now and that is Daniels.
After his come-from-behind win this week against the New York Giants Daniels seems to proving he can be the guy to come in and make a difference right away for a team that has struggled to find an identity. In that week two win Daniels went 23 for 29 for 226 yards 0 TDs 0 INTs, with 10 rushes for 44 yards. But to me, it was the way he played. He showed he has what it takes and that his understands of NFL defenses and the game itself.
With a 75.4 completion percentage through two games he has moved his offense, something the other two have not. In the win on Sunday Daniels led Washington on seven scoring drives including the game-winning drive. Williams and Nix are both just trying to service much less make a drive happen.
Of course, there is and will be other rookies at other positions that will make their case as well but through two games it looks as though Jaylen Daniels is making a case for Rookie of the Year.
