The New York Boulders hosted the Sussex County Miners in a morning matinee game at Clover Stadium in Pomona, New York, in front of a loud and enthusiastic crowd of 4,252 fans, mostly school kids, on a bright and sunny day with warm temperatures.
Despite a setback in the series opener, where they fell 5-1 to Sussex County, the New York Boulders showed remarkable resilience. This loss, which ended their four-game winning streak, was quickly followed by a triumphant return. The Boulders embarked on a highly successful road trip, winning seven out of eight games.
The In addition please give photo credit to Drew Wohl. Miners quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against New York starting pitcher Mitchell Senger on an RBI single from Alec Sayre. Senger managed to avoid further damage by retiring the next two hitters.
The game took a thrilling turn in the second inning when the Boulders responded with a powerful bat swing. Second baseman Nick Gotta delivered a game-changing moment, clubbing a three-run home run into the Short Porch area of right field, sparking excitement among the fans.
New York kept the pressure up in the third inning as Peyton Isaacson drilled an RBI single into right field. With runners on the corner and none out, Casey Dana hit a fly ball to center field; David Vinsky tagged up from the third base and came into the score to widen the margin to 5-1.
Mitchell Senger settled into a groove, retiring six in a row, but Sussex County answered in the fifth inning with a run and threatened again with runners scoring in the sixth. Senger wiggled out of the jam, setting down the last two hitters.
Rolling into the seventh inning, the Boulders loaded the bases, and Casey Dana drove in his second game run with another sac fly, increasing the lead to 6-2. First baseman Joe DeLuca stepped up next and managed to draw a walk, forcing a run and making it 7-2.
Mitchell Senger’s strong performance couldn’t be overlooked as the game climaxed. After seven innings, he had yielded only two runs on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out six. But it was David Vinksy who truly sealed the Boulders’ victory. He delivered a game-winning hit in the eighth inning, crushing a two-run missile onto the left-field concourse, boosting the advantage to 9-3. This was Vinksy’s fifth-round tripper of the season and his league-leading 23rd RBI, a testament to his invaluable contribution to the team.
