Jacque Vaughn’s time in Brooklyn has come to an end as the Nets have relieved him of his head coaching duties. This comes days after a 50-point loss that appeared all had checked out of, players and coaches. The Nets are promoting assistant coach Kevin Ollie to replace Vaughn on an interim basis for the rest of the season,
The Nets have struggled once again this season currently in 11th place in the East at 21-33. Another season of mediocracy for the Nets. Although it did appear clear he had lost this team I am not sure you put all the blame on his shoulders. This is a team that had its share of talent and they seem to underperform. With the Nets, Vaughn spent the vast majority of his time as an assistant before being named the interim head coach after the firing of Steve Nash on Nov. 1, 2022. Just eight days later the Nets removed “interim” from his title and made him the permanent head coach.
The list of candidates will no doubt open up at the end of the season when the coaching carousel starts up. For now it will be Ollies’ job to get this team to do what Vaughn, Nash and soon-to-be more could not do…win.
