The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, score was 27-10.
Philadelphia now has lost 5 of their last 6 games. The Dallas Cowboys have won the NFC East. Philly finishes 2nd in the NFC East and are the No.5 seed in the playoffs. This will be the 19th consecutive season with no repeat winner in the NFC East.
They will fly to Florida and face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I really want to pick the Bucs to win but I don’t think that will happen. Their QB Baker Mayfield hasn’t looked the greatest over these past few weeks and they are 2-7 against winning teams this season.
Since the NFL switched to a 16+ game season, 47 teams have started 10-1 or better. 2 teams ended the year with less than 12 wins, first is the 1986 Jets and the second is the 2023 Eagles.
Philly will be the first team to lose 5 of their last 6 games and make the playoffs since the 1999 Miami Dolphins.
The 24-point halftime deficit to the Giants is the Eagles largest halftime deficit against the Giants since week 17 of the 2012 season, which was Andy Reid’s last game as a coach.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts finished the game 7/16 for 55 yards and he rushed 2 times for 4 yards. He got injured during the game with a dislocated middle finger on his throwing hand, he did come back in for a short period of time before Marcus Mariota came in to replace him.
Mariota finished the game 13/20 for 148 yards 1 TD, 1 INT and was sacked 3 times. There was 1 reception of 20 yards or more in this game, other then that there was no explosive plays at all.
The Giants defense blitzed Hurts a lot during this game. And not to mention the Bucs like to blitz as well, their defense blitzes at the 3rd highest percentage rate in the NFL.
Here are Jalen Hurts stats when facing the blitz this season:
1,306 yards, 6 TD, 3 INT, 60.5% and a 74.1 QB passer rating(28th in NFL)
Philadelphia’s defense is not good!
It doesn’t matter what DC is calling the plays, they couldn’t stop a nosebleed. The Giants had over 400 yards of total offense during the game. Eagles CB James Bradberry is getting cooked by Tight Ends, their linebackers look old, slow and confused on every play.
I blame DC Matt Patricia and I would fire him.
During this game he had DE Hasson Reddick and Josh Sweat in coverage and they got cooked. There is no reason why you should have two of your best pass rushers in coverage. They simply aren’t putting players in a position to be successful.
Eagles DE Josh Sweat ends the regular season with an 8-game streak of recording 0 sacks.
Eagles K Jake Elliott ends the regular season 93.8% on field goals which is just ridiculous. He has to be top 2 only behind the great Justin Tucker from the Baltimore Ravens.
A quick look into next week, Las Vegas has the Eagles favorited to win against the Bucs. They have opened with a 1.5 point favorite, I would expect the line to move as the game gets closer.
Injuries:
- Eagles WR AJ Brown – knee
- Eagles S Sydney Brown – ACL
- Eagles RG Cam Jurgens – eye
