South Carolina are Champions Once Again!

The South Carolina women’s basketball is on top of the world once again as they took down Caitlin Ckark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the national championship Sunday afternoon. Going through the season undefeated is not a feat all can do and one that should be admired. Clark and Iowa had a great run and in more ways than one made us all watch, but this Gamecock team was on a mission and the talent that team was just too much to overcome.  The size was a real factor as the inside play of Kamilla Cardoso, who finished with 15 points and a career-high 17 boards, becoming the fifth player with at least 15 points and 15 rebounds in a championship game.

“They made history,” Staley, overcome with emotion, told ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “They etched their names in the history books when this is the unlikeliest group to do it.

“When [God] closes a door, he opens up a door that’s giving you unimaginable success.”

South Carolina ran through the tournament with little deterrence but they did it with style and class. Coach Stanly not only showed class with all the negativity she got before the game from the media but after the win she took the time on the stage to give props to Clark for all she had done for the game. Something not seen ever on that type of stage and will cement her as a true real one, someone you can trust with your child and that means recruiting.

As for Clark, she knows how special this one was.

“The biggest thing is it’s really hard to win these things,” Clark said. “I think I know that better than most people by now. To be so close twice really hurts.”

Clark ended her collegiate career with the most points in Division I men’s or women’s history at 3,951 and overall captured many to the game of women’s basketball. If she plays in the BIG3 or not she will continue to people to the game.
