AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS (04/24/24) – JACK PERRY RETURNS!

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite aired live from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, featuring the return of Jack Perry after his shocking appearance at Dynasty.

– The show opened with a shot of Jack Perry and The Elite arriving at the arena. Some security guards tried to stop Perry, but the Bucks allowed him to enter the arena.

WHO’S YOUR BEST FRIEND?

– Orange Cassidy’s theme playing, only for his body to be thrown into the ramp. Trent Beretta dragged Cassidy’s body into the ring and called Chuck Taylor out. Trent apologized to Chuck for not doing this anytime sooner, as Chuck entered the ring. He pointed out how Cassidy was supposed to be their mascot, but he turned them into their lackeys. Trent told Chuck that Cassidy did not care about them and told him to do the right thing and give the people what they want. Chuck teased giving Trent a hug, only to tell him that he always thought he was a piece of sh*t and clobber his head with a mic. Chuck told Trent that he was not cleared to face him in the ring, so he wanted to fight him in the Parking Lot.

– Backstage, Jon Moxley put over how tough of an opponent Powerhouse Hobbs was. Moxley said that he knew what it takes to reach the top and stay there; and that tonight he would remind the world of who he is.

(1) SWERVE STRICKLAND (w/Prince Nana) vs. KYLE FLETCHER (w/Don Callis)

Swerve put Fletcher in a hammerlock, until he was able to put his boot on the ropes. Swerve avoided a chop to the chest and tried to put him in an armbar. Both men blocked kick attempts, until Swerve caught Fletcher with a leaping kick to the head. Swerve blasted Fletcher with a diving uppercut to the back of the head before receiving a flying leg lariat. Swerve surprised Fletcher with a back body drop on the floor, setting him up for a pump kick from the apron, as AEW Dynamite went to commercials.

Back from break, Swerve dropped Fletcher with a backbreaker before they traded slaps. Fletcher caught Swerve with a thrust kick, setting him up for a Michinoku Driver. Swerve dropped Fletcher with a neckbreaker onto the apron before crushing him with a Swerve Stomp on the apron. Fletcher countered a House Call kick with a modified ankle lock into a knee bar, forcing Swerve to crawl for the ropes. Fletcher nailed Swerve with a pair of kicks to the chest, only for Swerve to kick him away.

Swerve dropped Fletcher with a rolling flatliner and a brainbuster for a two count. Both men teased going for a piledriver, until Fletcher managed to hit the move for a nearfall. Fletcher blasted Swerve with an enzuigiri in the corner, but couldn’t follow up with a superplex. Swerve crushed Fletcher with a double stomp while in a Tree of Woe position for a close two count. Swerve immediately cracked Fletcher with a House Call kick for the victory.

WINNER: Swerve Strickland at 14:45 (***1/2)

– Backstage, Renee Paquette interviewed Thunder Rosa about her loss to Toni Storm at Dynasty. Rosa mentioned how Deonna Purrazzo got into her business, only for Purrazzo to show up and call her out for mentioning her name. They nearly got into a brawl, but a few security guards showed up to separate them.

(2) MINA SHIRAKAWA (w/Mariah May) vs. ANNA JAY

Jay clocked Shirakawa with a kick to the face, only for Shirakawa to trip her and blast her with a dropkick to the back. Shirakawa caught Jay with an elbow strike and an enzuigiri for a two count. Shirakawa dropped Jay with a Russian leg sweep, setting her up for a series of elbow drops to the leg. Jay reached the ropes to break a Figure 4 before raking Shirakawa’s eyes and dropping her with a neckbreaker, as AEW Dynamite went to an ad break.

Back from break, Shirakawa blocked the Queensalyer before getting into a forearm strike exchange with Jay. Shirakawa knocked Jay off her feet with a discus elbow, followed by a spinning backfist. Shirakawa caught Jay with a modified diving knee strike for a two count. Jay caught Shirakawa with a J-Kick, setting her up for the Gory Bomb and a nearfall. Shirakawa blocked an STO and put Jay down with a dragon screw, followed by the Figure 4. Jay reached the ropes, only for Shirakawa to quickly knock her down with a missile dropkick and an enzuigiri for a two count. Jay countered the Glamorous Driver with a sleeper hold, until Shirakawa caught her with the Glamorous Collection for the three count.

WINNER: Mina Shirakawa at 8:59 (***)

– After the match, Anna Jay attacked Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa, until Toni Storm showed up to make the save, leaving her title on the ramp. As Storm checked on May, Serena Deeb showed up on the entrance way to pose with the women’s world title.

WILLOW NIGHTINGALE’S CHAMPIONSHIP CELEBRATION

– Stokely Hathaway and Kris Statlander introduced Willow Nightingale as the new champion. Willow thanked Stokely, Statlander and the fans before mentioning how she got her start and her #AllElite graphic in this arena. Mercedes Mone interrupted, only for Willow to point out how she has interrupted her numerous times now. Mone said that she was here to congratulate Willow and tell her to enjoy the celebration before she loses the title at Double Or Nothing. Mone tried to question Willow if she attacked her, but Stokely and Statlander interrupted to make their case. Willow focused on how Mone seemed to have a vendetta against her, asking her if she injured her on purpose.

– Mone mentioned how Willow almost took away what she loves most and said that Willow only cared, so she would feel better herself. Willow said that after she won the NJPW Strong Women’s title, she didn’t feel good because she felt like there was an asterisk in her title reign. Willow pointed at her TBS title and said that there was no asterisk next to it and that she wanted Mone at 100%. Mone told Willow to enjoy this while she could because she knew she couldn’t beat her at Double Or Nothing. Statlander grabbed Mone’s arm as she started leaving, only for Mone to turn around and slap Willow.

– Backstage, Alex Marvez asked Jack Perry and every member of The Elite if Perry was reinstated. Perry, Okada and Nicholas ignored Marvez while Matthew told him that Tony Khan agreed to meet him later tonight in the ring.

– A recap of Jack Perry tearing off his AEW contract at NJPW Battle in the Valley was shown.

(3) CASINO GAUNTLET MATCH – AEW International Championship Contender’s Match

Jay White and Dante Martin came out first to start the match. White quickly cornered Dante with a couple of chops to the chest, followed by an enzuigiri. Dante knocked White down with a headscissors takeover and a dropkick for a two count. White avoided a Tope con Hilo and hit Dante with a chop to the chest. Dante clocked White with a jumping knee, only for White to retaliate with a Xploder over the ropes. Penta El Zero Miedo was the next participant, taking both White and Dante down with sling blades. Penta caught Dante with a thrust kick in the corner, as AEW Dynamite went to an ad break.

Back from break, Kyle O’Reilly was the next participant, immediately hitting Penta, Dante and White with kicks to the chest. Dante took Penta down with a clothesline, only for Kyle to take them down with dragon screws. Kyle tripped White and mocked him with a slap to the face. Kyle swept White off his feet, as he crawled for the ropes. Will Ospreay was the next participant, immediately getting into a strike exchange with Kyle. Ospreay hit Kyle with a springboard forearm and knocked Dante and Penta down with a double handspring back elbow. White and Ospreay had a face-off, only for White to gouge his eyes and blast him with chops to the chest.

White rolled out of the ring while Ospreay planted Dante with a Spanish Fly for a two count. Lance Archer was the next participant, knocking Ospreay off his feet with a single forearm strike. Archer dropped Dante on top of White with a chokeslam and knocked Penta down with a shoulder tackle. Kyle countered a chokeslam with a Guillotine, only for Archer to take him down with a suplex and an elbow strike. Archer clocked Ospreay with a jumping knee and dumped him onto everyone else at ringside with the Blackout, as AEW Dynamite went to a commercial break.

Back from break, Komander was the next participant, immediately putting Archer through two tables with a hurracarrana from the apron. Komander spiked Ospreay with a Satellite DDT, but White broke the pinfall. White planted Komander with a uranage for a close two count. Ospreay countered the Blade Runner with a sitout powerbomb for a nearfall. Jay Lethal was the next participant, putting Ospreay down with a basement dropkick. Lethal hit Dante with a Lethal Combination and dropped Penta with the Lethal Injection.

White took care of Lethal with a sleeper suplex before receiving a missile dropkick from Dante. Kyle blasted Dante with an axe kick and a forearm strike before trading forearm strikes with Ospreay. Ospreay shocked Kyle with a sudden Hidden Blade for a close nearfall. Kyle surprised Ospreay with a cross armbreaker, only for Komander to break the hold with Cielito Lindo. Ospreay broke the pinfall by cracking Komander with the Hidden Blade for the win.

WINNER: Will Ospreay at 18:43 (***1/2)

– After the match, the Undisputed Kingdom showed up to have a face-off with Will Ospreay.

WE’LL HEAR FROM CHRIS JERICHO

– Chris Jericho put over how his title win was for the fans, calling it the “For the World” championship. Jericho claimed that it was his job to teach the younger generation, focusing on how Hook should have disposed of the dead weight like Taz and Shibata. Big Bill interrupted to tell Jericho that he needed his guidance. Bill told Jericho that he was the best fit for the Learning Tree, calling Jericho the Socrates of wrestling. Jericho told Bill that he would think about it while Bill said that he would show him.

– Backstage, Renee Paquette interviewed Will Ospreay about his win earlier tonight. Don Callis pointed out how Ospreay should have used the Tiger Driver 91, only for Ospreay to insist that he was retiring the move after what happened to Bryan Danielson. Kyle Fletcher tried to focus on Ospreay’s victory, but Callis shut him up after his loss.

(4) JON MOXLEY vs. POWERHOUSE HOBBS – IWGP World Heavyweight Championship

Moxley caught Hobbs with a kick to the knee, only for Hobbs to pummel him down with a bunch of stomps. Moxley caught Hobbs with a back elbow and a German suplex, but Hobbs immediately got up to his feet. Hobbs launched Moxley away with a Xploder and clobbered him with a forearm to the back. Moxley knocked Hobbs over the barricade with a big boot. Hobbs beat Moxley into the crowd and blasted him with a chop to the chest, as AEW Dynamite went to commercials.

Back from break, Hobbs put Moxley in a Bear Hug, followed by a couple of Irish-whips. Hobbs blocked a cutter, but missed a follow-up corner splash, allowing Moxley to knock him down with a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Moxley pummeled Hobbs with a load of right hands, setting him up for the Paradigm Shift and a nearfall. Moxley immediately put Hobbs in the Bulldog Choke, making him pass out.

WINNER: Jon Moxley at 10:43 (Still IWGP World Heavyweight Champion) (**1/2)

– After the match, Konosuke Takeshita showed up to have a face-off with Jon Moxley.

– Backstage, Katsuyori Shibata told Chris Jericho via his phone that he would take his FTW title next week in his hometown of Winnipeg.

TONY KHAN & JACK PERRY FACE-TO-FACE

– Jack Perry made his way to the ring to mention how he had some of his greatest nights in Jacksonville, but tonight it was about business. Tony Khan made his way to the ring, as Perry claimed that he always wanted what was best for AEW. Perry asked TK to shake his hand, reinstate him and move on, so they can keep on changing the world together. TK shook Perry’s hand and hugged him while Perry gave a smirk to the camera. Perry clobbered TK with a mic shot to the abdomen, as the Elite ran down to check on TK. The Bucks teased hitting TK with the EVP Trigger, but instead chose to spike him with the TK Driver. The Elite stood tall, as numerous referees, security guards and other wrestlers ran down to check on TK.
