Ray “Glacier” Lloyd and The Unbreakable Bunch

“Blood runs cold” introduced Ray Lloyd’s Glacier onto the scene at World Championship Wrestling in 1996.

“An alien force came to conquer – they had no idea this bunch was in town” ushers in Lloyd’s newest project, The Unbreakable Bunch next week.

Born into a law-enforcement family in Georgia, Lloyd followed a different career path. At 14, he started training as a martial artist. While still in school, he studied several disciplines, winning accolades and titles, including being the World Karate Association Southeastern Super Heavyweight Full Contact Karate Champion. He also played football at Valdosta State University.

Shortly after graduation, Lloyd started training to be a wrestler. Starting on the Georgia independent scene, Lloyd soon was signed by WCW. His real break came in 1996 though, when Glacier was introduced.

Capitalizing on the Mortal Kombat craze, the Glacier was created similarly to Sub-Zero. A series of vignettes previewing Glacier created quite a buzz. Glacier’s entrance was costly, but magnificent. His garb reportedly cost $35,000, but designer Andre Freitas of Atlanta-based AFX Studios did an incredible job. Every wrestling fan nividly remembers that armor.

Glacier’s arrival coincided with that of the New World Order. On the positive side, Lloyd was part of WCW during one of the highest points in pro wrestling. The explosive success of the NWO did overshadow some other storylines though. Still, Lloyd remained one of the few wrestlers to not be a part of the NWO madness. This speaks to the uniqueness and success of the Glacier character much to the credit of Lloyd.

Lloyd eventually went back to the independent scene, while still returning to WCW a few times. He last left WCW shortly before it closed.

Venturing into acting, Lloyd has been building a resume of television and movie work. His latest project has actually been in the works since pre-pandemic days.

The Unbreakable Bunch is the story of a group of veteran wrestlers on a final tour. When they arrive in Florida, they encounter aliens. Who will win this battle?

The Unbreakable Bunch stars Lloyd and several other well-known wrestling legends, including Diamond Dallas Page, Ernest “The Cat” Miller, Larry Zbyszko, Tonga “Haku/Meng” Fifita, David “Gangrel” Heath and more. The cast also includes established actors like Julie Denton (Creepshow).

In our interview, it is clear Lloyd is passionate about this labor of love. His enthusiasm seems to be well-placed, as early reviews for The Unbreakable Bunch are very positive.

Lloyd discusses al of this in our recent interview. He clearly and accurately describes The Unbreakable Bunch as not just a wrestling movie. Having watched the trailers, I see a bit of everything, but the bottom line is it is simply entertaining.

The movie gives me a They Live vibe. It releases soon, but you can watch the trailers at theunbreakablebunchmovie.com.
